CSA ANNOUNCEMENT:

Patriot Farms’ CSA is Back Again!!!

Thank you all so much for showing interest in our CSA for the 2024 season. We are continuing to embark on a new leg of our farm journey and we can’t wait to share it with you! Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a beautiful partnership in which members pledge up front, to help cover the anticipated costs of the farm’s production for a growing season, and in return receive a portion of the farm’s crops over the period of time specified in the agreement. Unlike simply purchasing food at a grocery store or market, as a member of Patriot Farms CSA, you receive many additional benefits!

 • a weekly portion (or a “share”) of the farm’s harvest (2 sizes to choose from)

• the chance to invest in your local agricultural economy

• the knowledge of how and where your food is grown

• a strong, active relationship with your farmers

• a chance to connect and learn from fellow CSA members

• information on how to eat with the seasons, store, preserve and enjoy our produce

• the opportunity to come visit our farm and connect with the land that sustains us all

By making the effort to commit to this relationship with us, we are tremendously grateful to be a part of your family’s summer.  Our CSA will run for 15 weeks from early June through early September. Members are responsible for showing up at their chosen pick-up site on Saturdays or Sundays each week to pick up their share of freshly harvested produce.

Get to know your local farmers! Have you ever wondered what an organic farm looks like? Would you like to see how we manage to produce all of our beautiful veggies, and where we raise our happy pigs, chickens, ducks and goose? Well, come on down for a visit, we would love to share knowledge and offer a tour of the farm!

Tours are about an hour long and offered on a donation basis for individuals and small groups. (Suggested donation: $15) This contribution directly benefits the farm and our daily operations.

Give us a call (or email) when you are ready to book your tour!

This is a fun, educational and inspiring experience for all ages.
Children are welcome with adult supervision.

  • Turn Left onto Mountain Rd (leaving Farm Store)

  • Make first Left onto Bonaventure Rd (gravel road)

  • Make another Left (in 200ft) onto dirt/stone driveway (10 MPH maximum speed)

  • Continue up the driveway about 1/2 mile back through open fields (you will pass a house on your right, keep going)

  • Once you cross the woods line you will see greenhouses/deer fence

  • Continue through main gate and park on your left in stone parking area.

The Year is a Day. The deep of night is the dead of winter, a time of quiet, of stillness and sleep. We lay idle and our minds and bodies soften and dream. Yet as the Earth turns the light slowly rises. Awakenings in the ground and shouts from the farmyard herald the return of the Sun. This is the Dawn of the Year: Spring. • Water flows forth, from the ground, well, and sky, breaking loose what was held firm and reviving the world. Our festivals celebrate purification and rebirth. We release our winter habits and schedules, cleaning our houses and bodies in preparation for the year’s work. We wash our faces and clear our minds, turning towards the day. • What will this day hold? It is a question many of us ask this time of year. We commit to diets, to exercise regimen, to cultivating certain relationships, to letting others go. It’s a dynamic time. At Patriot Farms, we go through these changes as well. We’ve cleaned our fields and are planting crops. Our propagation house is alive with seedlings outgrowing their pots and trays, ready to move outside. As many of you know, we’ve also remade our business model this year to bring forth a CSA. Like the new years diets and morning meditations, the CSA is a healthy resolution for our farm. It is simpler, reduces waste, affords greater variety of vegetables, better balances work and rest, and creates an opportunity for us to be more involved with you and for you to be more involved with us. • So I wonder, may our resolutions meet? For those of you committing to a healthier lifestyle this season—will organic vegetables be a part of that? Will those vegetables come from Chile? From California? From Lancaster? How are they grown? Who knows? How about food from a small farm in Lenhartsville run by a Berks county native with a crew of wholesome, hard working people? We grow vegetables in native soil with mushroom compost from Kempton. We use hand tools and our hands, greenhouses, and a walk behind tractor, that’s it. If that sounds alright to you, please join our CSA. The first box goes out the third week in may with a box a week for the next 18 weeks. The last day to sign up is May 1st. Freshly canned Dandelion Honey Jelly🌞 A huge part of why Ansel & I got into farming organically is because we wanted to take care of the land, grow good food, and preserve it for leaner times. When we started farming, I had no idea how to grow veggies or cook- let alone preserve any type of food! It’s been a long journey and every time I failed- like the time last year when I spent hours picking and processing dandelions to make jelly, just to have it NOT set- I’ve made sure to keep at it, and learn from my mistakes. I used to dread spending time in the kitchen, and now I’ve come to love it. Preserving our harvests, whether it be freezing, fermenting, drying, water-bath canning, or pressure canning is so incredibly rewarding and is a deeply intimate way of making sure my family eats healthy and seasonally. If you’re dreaming of eating fresh nutrient dense veggies and of “putting up” some of your own food, our CSA might be a good fit for you. SOME BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS Hi Everyone! Things on the farm have been pretty quiet lately, and that’s because Ansel and I have been busy planning out some changes for this year. 🥕1. OUR FIRST EVER CSA is here! We’ve been wanting to start a CSA on our farm for quite some time now, and we’re so excited to finally make the jump this year! Information and details are available on our website https://www.patriotfarmspa.com/csa-2023 . This 18 week CSA is going to be packed with lots of veggies & greens, and will also be a great opportunity to learn more about preparing locally grown produce. We’ve lined up THREE great weekly pick-up locations, Hofford Mill in Weissport, Zekraft Café in Allentown, and our own farm store in Lenhartsville. Sign-up for our CSA before March 1st to get the EARLYBIRD DISCOUNT. There’s limited space in our CSA so be sure to make haste and sign up before it’s too late! 🥬 2. After 5 great years at the Lehighton Downtown Farmers’ Market, we will no longer be attending the market after April 2023. We’re incredibly grateful to have been able to provide our Lehighton customers with organic veggies over the years, and we encourage customers to consider our CSA program with a weekly pick-up location in Weissport. (We’ll still be attending the Emmaus Farmers’ Market year-round though). Thank you, Lehighton! 🐖 3. We’re also taking a break from raising our pastured pigs this year. This means that once we sell out of our organically-fed, soy-free, pasture raised pork, it’ll be quite some time until we have more. Raising pigs is a huge part of our overall holistic context, so this decision will only be temporary. Ansel & I will resume raising pigs again in the future, once we feel like we’re able to focus on the organic veggies and the pasture raised pork equally. Thanks again for all of your support as we navigate this organic farming journey! -Brittany
